Macedonian Ombudsman NaserZiberi believes that the amendments to the Criminal Code are problematic from the point of view of the procedure, because it was fast-track without the possibility of a serious discussion.

In an interview with Kanal5 TV, attorney Ziberi emphasized that a serious discussion would have provided enough arguments.

“Personally, I think that the amendments to the Criminal Code are problematic from the point of view of the very short procedure by which they were adopted, without opportunities for serious discussion, and very sensitive provisions are being changed. Second, I think that a serious discussion would have given enough arguments as to whether those are the necessary measures that the state should take and whether those are the crimes that should have their sentences reduced in some way. The reactions, as you could see, not only from the general public, but also from specialized institutions on these issues are unfortunately not in favor of the measures,” said Ziberi.
