North Macedonia is on an excellent path to the EU but political forces in the country need to cooperate toward this goal, European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn said in his keynote address to the Skopje Economic Finance Forum on Friday.
But it is important to understand that the EU is an adherence to common values, interests, perspectives and an understanding of how we see individuals. Therefore, the rule of law is not our obsession, but a prerequisite. Aspects related to the rule of law should be implemented. Democracy is not easy, sometimes it is a burden, of course it is fine to make decisions faster, but the most important thing is that everyone agrees with it. If I hear that more than 75 percent of the people here are for Europe, it is significant for all of you to have political responsibility, to use this strong support as a real force to implement certain measures according to our European intentions,” said Hahn.
