The prices from August 1 will likely be used as the reference for the announced reduction of the prices of more than 50 basic food products in the country, said Macedonian Prime Minister DimitarKovachevski on Friday.

According to Kovachevski, the majority of price hikes occurred after August 1, which is why it was taken as a reference.

“We analyzed the prices and, practically, the majority of hikes happened after August 1, which is why we took it as a reference. But, this doesn’t mean that we won’t take other elements into account as well, even July. The analysis is underway, I think it will be completed by the end of the weekend. The most important thing is to adopt a measure that will put an end to all possibilities for manipulation with the promotional prices, as well as the fact that a meeting was held during which the retail chains expressed their willingness to reduce prices by at least 10 percent, and that the current prices will not serve as reference,” said Kovachevski.
