Last week, at the Orthopedic Diseases Clinic at TOARILUC, a complicated surgery was performed, reconstruction of the upper extremity, in which a 44-year-old man injured by a firearm was transplanted with bone tissue from a donor’s forearm.
“It was a joint injury that occurred as a result of a gunshot in March 2023. One of the bones of the forearm is damaged with a large defect of eight centimeters. To bridge the defect, a fibula from a deceased donor was used and it was fixed with plates and screws,” explains Dr. AleksandarTrajanovski, director of the TORILUC Clinic and one of the surgeons who participated in the transplantation together with Dr. AleksandarSaveski.
