On October 19, 2003, Pope John Paul II, with the solemn procession that took place in “St. Peter’s” Square in Rome, beatified Mother Teresa, that is, declared her blessed, which was the last act before her canonization.
After the beatification of Mother Teresa, she received the title of Blessed Mother Teresa, which she carried until she was declared a saint after the church officially determined that she had performed a second miracle.
On December 17, 2015, the Vatican confirmed that Pope Francis had acknowledged her second miracle by healing a Brazilian man with multiple brain tumors.
The Pope canonized Mother Teresa on September 4, 2016 in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican in front of tens of thousands of people, including 15 official delegations and 1,500 homeless people from all over Italy. The ceremony was broadcast live on Vatican TV and online.
