The Ministry of Health said Wednesday that an additional MKD 100 million have been approved for the procurement of Kaftrio (Trikafta) and Kalydeco, the prescription medicine used for the treatment of cystic fibrosis.

The Clinic of Children’s Diseases, the press release reads, received an approval from the Ministry of Health, the Health Insurance Fund and Public Procurement Bureau for immediate procurement though direct negotiations with the authorized distributor of Vertex Pharmaceuticals.

The Clinic for Children’s diseases, which is supposed to procure the medicine, said that an agreement was signed between directors of the Clinic and Alkaloid KONS on November 21, and the medicine is supposed to be delivered in the first half of December of this year.

“The current twelve patients, who already receive the medicine, will be receiving 102 therapy regimens for another two months (until April 2024), and the medicine will also be available for additional patients who meet the criteria for Kaftrio in combination with Kalydeco,” the Clinic announced.
