A total of twenty Christian Orthodox frescoes stolen from Macedonian churches, mostly from the Struga region, will be returned from Albania to Macedonia on Friday.

The religious frescoes will be properly packed so that they are not damaged during transport and will be taken to the Museum of Macedonia, from where, after the protection process, they will be exhibited and then returned to the MOC.

The procedure for returning the stolen frescoes to the country began in 2013, with activities intensifying over the past two years.

Hundreds of frescoes were stolen from churches in the western and southwestern parts of the country from 2009 to 2013. There were 22 reports of burglary from churches in the Struga region alone, according to the local police department.
