The state took a loan of 560 million euros for the last phase of the railway to Bulgaria (Kriva Palanka – Deve Bair), for which a tender for the selection of a contractor has not yet been announced. This part, according to the announcements, should start to be built as soon as the tender is finished, which should be announced by the end of the year.
Macedonian Minister of Finance, Fatmir Besimi, thanked the EU, EIB and EBRD for the support that will enable the completion of this ten-year project.
In order for the railway to be complete by the middle of next year, the construction of the section from Kumanovo to Beljakovce should be completed and in 2025 the section to Kriva Palanka.
The full investment, according to current calculations, will cost 700 million euros, and it was announced that it will be completed first by 2025, so that the journey to Sofia will begin in 2027 without a specified deadline.
