Parliament adopts Law on Use of Macedonian Language

Macedonian MPs adopted on Friday the Law on Use of the Macedonian Language, which will replace the one dating from 1998. MPs unanimously endorsed the law at the session chaired by newly-elected Parliament Speaker Jovan Mitreski.

The law prescribes mandatory proofreading of all materials, with publication of the name of the proofreader, mandatory employment of proofreaders in all public institutions and government bodies, in state institutions, schools, publishing houses, media, which is expected to increase the interest in studying Macedonian language. An Inspectorate will be established to supervise the application of the law.
