Law Faculty professor Ana Pavlovska-Daneva was elected Constitutional Court judge at a Parliament session on Thursday. The judge was sworn in after getting 65 ‘yes’ votes, with 26 MPs voting against the motion.

VMRO-DPMNE MPs voted against the proposal of the ruling majority because, not disputing her expertise, they believe that her election will partisanship the Constitutional Court because Pavlovska-Daneva was also a prominent party official. They asked if she would be independent from the influence of SDSM as a former Member of Parliament and party deputy leader of SDSM, and if as a constitutional judge she would work in accordance with the Constitution or be obedient to the authorities.
