Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski decided not to sign the Decree on Promulgation of the Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on Games of Chance and Entertainment Games, which the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia adopted at the session held on February 7, 2024.
“The decision was made on the basis of a detailed analysis of the text of the Law and the procedure in which this Law was adopted, as well as after consultations with the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of North Macedonia, as our most important partner in the country in the negotiation process,” informed the President’s office.
“President Pendarovski believes that the amendments and additions to the law were adopted through improper use of the fast-track procedure for harmonizing our legislation with the law of the European Union, popularly known as the “EU flag procedure”, in a situation of the absence of an essential acquis (mandatory EU law) in the areas covered by this Act and the fact that the Act does not even mention a limited “EU acquis” that may be relevant,” added the press release.
