Macedonian Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani took part at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey, addressing panel “Challenges and Opportunities in the Balkans”, dedicated to the latest geopolitical developments in the region, specific challenges and possible solutions for stability and peace in the area.
FM Osmani said the region continues to be vulnerable and faces complex issues, whereas resulting frustrations are used by third parties. These frustrations are real and based on the long wait to realize the most fundamental right of reforms and progress that would follow the opening of the accession chapters for the countries of the Western Balkans.
“It is time for swift and decisive action. The Balkans expects to see bold steps and a clear path for the future enlargement, and a midterm vision for our region in reaching the ultimate goal – full-fledged membership of the Western Balkans into the Union,” said Osmani, adding that a different approach must be found by ensuring a majority vote within the European Commission over the opening of accession chapters, in order to stimulate the reform process of candidate-states, and a unanimous vote for their closure.
