In order to prevent the misuse of public funds by phantom media and to avoid misinforming the citizens about the election process, it is necessary to make urgent changes in the Media Law to create a register of online media in Macedonia, according to the statement signed by The Association of Journalists of Macedonia (AJM), the Independent Union of Journalists and Media Workers (SSNM) and the Council for Ethics in the Media of Macedonia (SEMM).

Regarding these legal changes, AJM, SSNM and SEMM say that they have pointed out several times to the Ministry of Information Society and Administration (MISA) as the competent ministry, but apparently, as the associations say, there is a lack of political will for constructive legal solutions.

Trade unions maintain that political campaigns should not be financed from the state budget and that paid political advertising may still be subject to partisan media corruption or abuse.
