Violence against healthcare workers is gaining momentum, and its suppression requires systemic solutions at the national level and at the level of healthcare facilities, the Medical Chamber points out on March 12, the fifth European Awareness Day of Violence Against Doctors and other Healthcare Professionals.
In a survey conducted by the Medical Chamber two years ago – 78% of doctors reported that they were exposed to some kind of violence in the workplace. Of them, 80% were exposed to verbal violence, and 6.8% experienced physical violence. Almost 70% of attacks are not reported at all.
The chamber urges doctors to report violent incidents to the police, and then to provide information to them, in order to be able to monitor the actions of the competent institutions, but also to propose measures.
