Prochka or Veliki Pokladi — a day in Orthodox Christianity of mutual forgiveness between believers before the beginning of the Easter fast. The date of Forgiveness changes depending on the date of Easter, and is always exactly seven weeks before Easter. From a religious point of view, Prochka is one of the manifestations of sincere and self-sacrificing love for one’s neighbors, which should follow the example of Jesus Christ for unconditional and boundless forgiveness among people.
As a tradition, younger believers ask for forgiveness from the elders by saying the words “forgive me”, and the elders respond by saying “may you be forgiven by me and by God”.
