The criteria for North Macedonia’s EU membership are very clear. I do not anticipate any change in the Negotiating Framework and I don’t think the member states would want to revisit any of the conditions, Olivér Várhelyi, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood, told Bulgarian media BGNES.
When asked by the agency that in the past months, some Macedonian politicians claim that there may be changes in the Negotiating Framework and whether there are opportunities to change the conditions, which Macedonia should fulfill, Várhelyi said that the membership criteria are clear.
“The criteria are very clear from 2022 onwards, when the Negotiating Framework was adopted. They should be met and in that sense I do not anticipate any changes. I don’t think that the member states will revise the conditions,” said Várhelyi.
