Almost 90 percent of Macedonian citizens detect hate speech in society, which is mainly spread via social media and is mostly motivated by politics, according to the latest public opinion survey conducted by the Skopje Political Research Institute – IPIS for Detector.
According to the poll, 89.1 percent of citizens said that hate speech is present in Macedonia, while only 6 percent did not detect such a phenomenon.
A third of the citizens believe that hate speech was motivated by political beliefs, 20.5 percent believe that it was motivated by ethnicity. 10.5 percent detected hate speech because of physical appearance, 7.5 percent because of religious beliefs and 5.5 percent because of age.
