VMRO-DPMNE-backed university professor GordanaSiljanovska-Davkova will be the sixth president of N. Macedonia and the first woman elected to the post.
Siljanovska-Davkova supported by VMRO-DPMNE in Wednesday’s second round of the presidential elections, defeated the incumbent president StevoPendarovski. According to the initial results of the SEC, Siljanovska-Davkova won 560,170 votes (65.14%), while her opponent Pendarovski backed by SDSM won 251,541 (29.25%).
In the campaign that she led under the slogan “Macedonia Proud Again”, Siljanovska-Davkova said that she would not use the adjective “North”, but would stand in front of a sign with the new constitutional name. She had also stated that she was against the constitutional amendments for the inclusion of Bulgarians in the Constitution, but if the Parliament made such a decision, she would respect it, because the Parliament is a constitutional body. She told the citizens that we should respect the fundamental values of our constitutional order, and the Prespa Agreement for her, as Siljanovska-Davkova said, is a politically and legally open issue.
In the statement made at last night’s press conference at the VMRO-DPMNE Central Election Headquarters, she promised to be the president for all citizens.
