Siljanovska-Davkova takes office from outgoing President Pendarovski

Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova officially took over the office of President on Sunday from outgoing President Stevo Pendarovski in a ceremony with the highest state and military honors.
The five-year presidential term of Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, who is the sixth president and also the first female president since the country’s independence, begins today.
In the presidential elections held on April 24 and May 8, Siljanovska-Davkova won 561,000 votes.
In a speech in Parliament, which she said she was dedicating to women to inspire them that it is possible to become president, the 71-year-old university professor of constitutional law and the political system said she would try to live up to the trust.
The newly-elected president emphasized that this is the biggest commitment in her life, in addition to being the most beautiful gift for her birthday, which was yesterday.
