53 West Nile fever cases, 21 patients treated at Skopje’s Infectious Diseases Clinic

Three patients are awaiting lab tests to confirm whether they are infected with the West Nile virus and six others are treated at the ICU. 21 patients are treated at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases with 18 being already diagnosed with having contracted the mosquito-borne virus, Macedonian Minister of Health Sasho Klekovski told a press conference Wednesday.

“Currently there are 53 patients who have been hospitalized, have or are suspected of having West Nile fever. Of these, 50 are confirmed, three are suspected cases hospitalized at the Infectious Diseases Clinic. Of these, 52 have the neuroinvasive form, one is without the neuroinvasive form and has been cured and released from hospital. Of these, 52 were treated or are still being treated at the Infectious Diseases Clinic. One is in a private healthcare facility,” Minister Klekovski said.
