Skopje International Airport and St. Paul the Apostle Airport in Ohrid ended 2020 with 782,876 passengers due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 71% less than in 2019. One of the options for overcoming the situation is to enable systematic testing of passengers at airports, which was initiated by the Government the airport operator.
Due to the decisions of the governments related to KOVID-19, the Skopje and Ohrid airports were closed for passenger traffic for 3.5 months – from mid-March 2020 to July 1, 2020. After the reopening, we faced a travel ban to the EU / Schengen for Macedonian citizens. This resulted in a reduction of the number of passengers by 71 percent for the whole of 2020 (January-December 2020) or from 2,677,618 passengers at the two Macedonian airports in 2019, we ended 2020 with a total of 782,876 passengers, said TAV Macedonia, concessionaire at the airports in the country.
