Young people today are becoming users of financial services earlier and earlier, which is why financial education should be systematically integrated into the educational process, noted the National Bank Governor Trajko Slaveski at an event dedicated to financial education in education, organized on the occasion of March 15 – International Consumer Rights Day, by the Development of Education Bureau.

According to OECD data, more than two-thirds of 15-year-olds already use financial products, such as payment accounts or payment cards, which emphasizes the importance of their timely financial education. The Governor pointed out that in conditions of rapid technological development, digitalization of financial services and increasingly complex financial products, financial literacy is becoming a necessary skill for every person. Hence, educational systems should increasingly recognize financial education as an important part of the teaching process, because it is not just additional knowledge, but the basis for responsible and conscious management of personal finances.

The National Bank constantly carries out numerous activities to promote financial literacy, aimed at pupils and students, as well as the general public. In recent years, numerous educational lectures have been held, printed and electronic materials, video content and educational games have been produced, as well as activities via social media.

The Governor announced that, this year as well, the National Bank will mark the Global Money Week with several educational activities, aimed at raising financial awareness among young people.
