The Macedonian Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning today announced a set of enhanced measures that will strengthen control over industrial pollution and improve the management of natural resources. Central to the announcements was the establishment of the polluter register, a new system that will collect reliable and comparable data on emissions, energy, water and raw material consumption, as well as on waste transfers – an instrument that, according to the Ministry, will be key to transparency and increased accountability of all holders of A-integrated environmental permits.
As informed by Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Muhamed Hoxha, the new law on industrial emissions will enter into force in September 2027. In the following period, the Ministry will organize a meeting with all operators holding an A-integrated permit, with the aim of timely informing and preparing for the new obligations. The minister also announced a public debate on the new permit for TITAN Usje, as well as strengthening control mechanisms. The State Environmental Inspectorate head Ivana Ginovska informed at the briefing that 366 inspections were conducted, 108 decisions were issued and fines of over EUR 450,000 were initiated.
