A patient infected with COVID-19 arrives in Macedonia in serious condition and is expected to be placed at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases, Fokus.mk has learned from sources at the clinic, who comment that some of their colleagues are panicking.
Health Minister Venko Filipche confirmed on Monday that such a patient is coming by special transport from Africa.
“The patient is a soldier, a Macedonian citizen, he was at a base where there are no conditions for him to be treated. For now, there is no typification for what kind of coronavirus it is, but the patient will be placed in isolation,” said Filipche.
The SARS-CoV-2 strain of coronavirus designated B.1.351 was first identified in South Africa. So far, no cases with this variant of the virus have been registered in Macedonia, but it is considered to be more contagious than the previously known strains.
