Newly elected Chief Prosecutor Saveski: No hidden cases or selective justice

My goal is to ensure radical accountability and transparency, digitalization, and working conditions that allow prosecutors to carry out their work efficiently and with dignity. While wages are often discussed, the main challenge lies in the working conditions, because you cannot fight wealthy criminals with a poorly funded institution. Ensuring financial resources is part of the solution, but the focus must be on creating proper conditions for work, newly-elected Chief Public Prosecutor Nenad Saveski said in a statement for MIA.

According to Saveski, the most important thing is to digitalize the work of prosecutors so that their work can be monitored and there is no, as he says, a “drawer stop system”.

“That digitalization could perhaps be a program that would be a “drawer stop system”. So, what is most often thrown out as criticism of the prosecution is that it works slowly, but also to see what the reasons are for that. Is it a lack of professional staff, prosecutors, or is there a shortage of support staff for public prosecutors.” said Saveski.

The new chief prosecutor does not want to single out a case with which he would start his work as the new chief public prosecutor because for him “all are equally important since they involve people’s fates”, but he will also not conduct selective justice and each case will be worked on in accordance with the law and in accordance with the deadlines and principles of work.
