VMRO-DPMNE MP Sergej Popov in an interview with TV 24 Monday evening spoke about the country’s EU integration, for which he emphasized that due to the issues that the SDSM-led government has accepted, the current negotiations now, as he claimed, will not look like negotiations but like negotiations about historical events, and VMRO-DPMNE’s position is that there must be predictability.
“In this current situation with these current issues, which the SDS in the previous government accepted, our negotiations will not look like negotiations from district to district or from cluster to cluster, but will look like negotiations from historical event to historical event, from battle to battle, from revolutionary to revolutionary, where our historians in the name of our European integration will have to capitulate and accept the retouching of Macedonian history,” said Popov.
Popov stressed that if negotiations begin, they will end at the first identity feature of the Macedonian people, and as he says, VMRO-DPMNE’s position is that for something to happen on the path to the EU, there must be predictability for it.
“Let’s be clear, if the constitutional amendments are adopted tonight, the negotiations will not end anywhere, that is, they will end at the first battle, at the first revolutionary or at the first identity feature of the Macedonian people with which Bulgarian politicians or Bulgarian historians do not agree. That is why VMRO-DPMNE’s position, both before the elections and now, is that constitutional amendments will only be made when we have predictability of what will happen after the constitutional amendments. We cannot afford to be in that process forever, and to forever disfigure ourselves and wash ourselves nationally without knowing where we will end up,” Popov added.
