To detect active COVID-19 infections in students, including in asymptomatic individuals, health authorities will administer 258 rapid antigen tests in nine Skopje high schools Wednesday, introducing a coronavirus surveillance testing program in schools nationwide.According to the Ministry of Health, rapid antigen testing will also be done in schools in Krivogashtani, Berovo, Vevchani, Debarca, DemirKapija, Dojran, Zrnovci, Konche, Lozovo, Mogila, Novaci, Pehchevo, StaroNagorichane and CentarZhupa.
“The testing will be carried out in a room designated by the school. Each test will take less than a minute. It is painless, safe, and conducted by taking a swab from the throat and nasal cavity,” the Ministry of Health said in a press release.
The purpose of the screening is early detection of COVID-19 or asymptomatic carriers among students. The relevant data will provide a complete picture of the transmission of the virus in schools in the interest of children, the release reads.
