Opposition SDSMleader VenkoFilipche in an interview with the Albanian TV Ora24 points out that the country’s path to the European Union is clear, but claims that the current government is “consciously hindering the implementation of obligations” that should move the country forward “due to criminal tenders”.
“We know what our path to Europe is. Within the things that need to be done. And, which this government is not doing,” stressed Filipche.
The opposition party leader notes that the constitutional amendments do not pose any threat to the Macedonian language and identity, but that it is precisely the blockade of European integration that is the real risk for the country.
“One thing is putting minorities in the Constitution, and here it is not only the Bulgarians, but also the Croats and so on. Whoever takes a step and follows their words, in no way threatens either the language or the Macedonian identity. On the contrary, if they are not made, we risk the state, whether it will survive in the next five or ten years,” said Filipche.
He added that the government must not spread fears about the constitutional amendments, but should show courage to come to terms with the past and fulfill the obligations undertaken.
“But, in addition, it says within the framework of the so-called French proposal that the UDBA files should be opened and finally come to terms with that past. And should the VMRO-DPMNE-led government not be afraid of that in fact? Why are these things not being opened? Why are they not being implemented in accordance with what was agreed within the framework of the French proposal? Because only in this way do we come to terms with the past and this country will move forward,” said Filipche.
