A strong police presence, special forces on the ground and a coordinated action against the drug underworld woke up the public early Tuesday morning.
The Ministry of Interior – the Public Security Bureau, through the Department for Organized Crime, together with special police forces and in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime, is conducting a massive operation in Skopje, Shtip, Strumica, as well as in the village of Grchec in the Skopje region. A criminal network related to illegal drug trafficking, specifically cocaine, is under attack, and according to initial information, searches are being conducted at about fifteen locations and several people from the criminal underworld have been captured.
Unofficially, names well-known in criminal circles have allegedly also fallen into the hands of the police.
According to security sources, this is an indiscriminate action and a direct attack on structures that have been operating in the shadows for a long time. Some analysts believe that this is a fairly deep digging through the underground in recent years, which is a signal that the fight against drug crime is entering a new, more aggressive phase.
