The draft law amending and supplementing the Law on Taking and Transplantation of Parts of a Human Body for Medical Treatment, has been available on the Electronic National Register of Regulations (ENER) since Thursday.

“The current implementation of the law has led to the need to make amendments and supplements in order to expand the circle of persons who can be living organ donors, facilitate and modify administrative procedures, and enable every citizen to designate himself as a potential organ donor after death by making a statement to his family physician. This is another step in the direction of raising public awareness of the significance of organ donation, as the highest act of philanthropy that saves human lives. The goal is for the will of the citizen to be primary, for the system to be more transparent and confidential, and for the personal decision to return to where it belongs – with the person himself,” said Macedonia’s Health Minister Azir Aliu.

It also foresees the introduction of a national list maintained by the Ministry of Health in the National System for Electronic Health Records, as well as other administrative and technical amendments to the legal draft.
