The Balkan lynx (Lynx balcanicus) has been photographed again in the Shebenik National Park after a long period, the Protected Areas Directorate in Elbasan said in a press release. The first clear photos were taken in 2025, and the lynx has been registered on cameras in the national park several times in recent months. The latest photos are nighttime, taken on Friday.

Albania’s National Agency for Protected Areas said that through the installed cameras, identification of tracks in the field and continuous observations by specialists, it was possible to photograph and document it, confirming its presence in the park’s natural habitats.

“The presence of the Balkan lynx in this park also proves that this species continues to expand its habitats throughout the country, thanks to conservation and preservation methods,” the agency said.

The Shebenik National Park, which borders the Jablanica Mountain near Struga, was declared a national park in 2008 and is part of the Golo Brdo area, Steblevo administrative unit.
