Macedonian Prime Minister HristijanMickoski commented Tuesday on PéterMagyar’s victory in Hungary, and spoke about the possible extradition of former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, who has fled in Hungary, and Magyar announced that he will be extradited.
“First, I would like to congratulate PéterMagyar. We had close cooperation with Viktor Orbán, but the citizens clearly gave their support to Magyar. I expect him to lead pro-European policies, pro-integration policies, and I expect support for the EU membership of the region, including Macedonia. As for the specific policies related to former Prime Minister Gruevski, they are a decision of the Hungarian government. As far as I am aware, extradition was requested back in 2018, and it was rejected in 2019, and additional comments should be requested from the Ministry of Justice,” Mickoski said.
The PM noted that he had no such expectations.
“But if he does show up in Macedonia, he has a final verdict, and immediately after he returns, of course, the law enforcement agencies will secure him and send him to serve a prison sentence that is in accordance with a final decision. We are a Government for which all laws apply and a Government that must respect the laws and institutions in the country, and of course every person has the right to use the institutions, to exercise their rights, to file appeals afterwards. But we as a Government have before us a final verdict by which the person you are talking about is now sent to serve a prison sentence. As for whether he will return and when he will return, I have no such expectations,”PM Mickoskisaid during a visit to the Customs Administration.
