The VMRO-DPMNE Women’s Union in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation is hosting an international event in Skopje between April 17 and April 19 dedicated to promoting women’s leadership and strengthening the European perspective of the Western Balkans.
The event brings together politicians, decision-makers, experts and representatives from the region and Europe, with the aim of exchanging experiences and strengthening the role of women in decision-making processes.
The official opening took place today, April 18, with addresses by MP and VMRO-DPMNE Women’s Union president Zhaklina Peshevska, the official representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in the country Daniel Braun, as well as the MP and VMRO-DPMNE Secretary General Dragan Kovachki. The event was also attended by the President of EPP Women and former European Commissioner Mairead McGuinness, as well as the Secretary General of the European People’s Party and Member of the European Parliament Dolors Montserrat, via online addresses.
The program includes discussions that are focused on current geopolitical and security challenges and their impact on the European Union enlargement process, with a special emphasis on the role of female leadership in these processes. In addition, a debate is opened on the energy transition, transport connectivity and their importance for accelerating the European integration of the region.
Part of the program is also dedicated to the role of women in science, technology and innovation, with the aim of building bridges between the Western Balkans and the European Union in these areas.
“As the director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation office in the country, I am pleased to express my support for the conference of the VMRO-DPMNE Women’s Union, which is a partner of the European People’s Party women’s organization. We live in a time of challenges, both in terms of geopolitical security and in terms of major social changes caused by new technologies such as artificial intelligence. In this regard, it is important to have a broad, but also differentiated approach to the topics. The participation of high-ranking guests from the countries in the region, as well as the participation of representatives from Brussels, are proof that these topics deserve great attention. As the head of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation office, I would like to thank Zhaklina Peshevska and the VMRO-DPMNE Women’s Union for their long-standing successful cooperation,” Daniel Braun said in his address.
