Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov says he never thought that Macedonia’s veto on EU membership should be lifted, but that it should be moved.
“The change of the Constitution of North Macedonia must take place before the first chapter and we need to put them on track for Europe, but the criteria they have to meet must be clearly set by us,” said the Bulgarian Prime Minister in an interview with Bulgarian Nova TV.
According to the Bulgarian PM, the rights of Bulgarians in Macedonia are an important issue.
“We are giving way to North Macedonia to Europe, but this road is paved with requirements and obligations, clearly framed and used by the whole of Europe to ensure progress that we all want to happen there,” Petkov stressed.
