Macedonian Deputy PM and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski said in an interview that Government is working hard on air traffic development, with 28 new routes already operational and a 30-percent rise in passengers in the first quarter (Q1) of 2026.
“This is a strategy we focused on in 2024, when we noticed that the air traffic and the number of passengers are dropping. We created a concept that is not easy, we talked to many companies, asking them to put Macedonia on their list of destinations. Let’s not forget that Macedonia is a land-locked country, but there are 28 new destinations since this Government took office. The number of passengers in 2026 is set to exceed 3.5 million, and I expect the number to reach 4 million in 2027, a 70-percent growth in total compared to the 2.5 million in 2024,” Deputy PM Nikoloski told Kurir’s podcast, and added that the Skopje airport has seen a 30-percent growth in the first quarter of 2026.
“The Ohrid airport saw a 20-percent increase but this number will rise even more following the airport’s rehabilitation,” Deputy PM Nikoloski pointed out.
