Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi rejected the initiative for a referendum because at least a million voters would have rejected the Treaty with Bulgaria, said the opposition party VMRO-DPMNE in a press release on Thursday.
“The Government led by the anti-Macedonian SDS, with the decision to reject the Referendum initiative, showed that it is afraid of facing the people and has absolutely no democratic capacity. They convinced Talat Xhaferi to pretend to be a Constitutional judge and break laws just to temporarily save Kovachevski’s career.
“Their decision is the result of panic and fear. They just showed that they have an influx from the people. They are aware that the vast majority of citizens are ready to go to the referendum and vote for the rejection of the Treaty with Bulgaria,” the opposition added.
