The official veterinarians of the Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) prevented the import of 23,685 kilograms of frozen chicken meat originating from Brazil.

“Due to non-compliance with the decision to ban the import of live animals, products and by-products of animal origin in order to protect against the introduction of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (bird flu) into the country, the shipment of frozen chicken meat was rejected, because it was produced in January 2025, and in accordance with the decision, the import of shipments obtained from animals slaughtered, loaded and certified before August 1, 2025 is prohibited. For the same reason, in December 2025, the official veterinarians at this border crossing returned a shipment of over 26 tons of frozen chicken drumsticks to Brazil,” the FVA informed.

As the responsible institution for food safety, the FVA urges food importers in the country to adhere to the laws, bylaws and standards relating to safety, because the health of citizens is a priority for both the Agency and the country.
