Ex-Oncology Clinic heads Vasev and Nuhi out on bail via property mortgage

Former director of the Oncology Clinic Nikola Vasev, and organizational director NehadNuhi are being released from detention, after the Criminal Council at theSkopje Basic Criminal Court, upon a proposal from the defense and a positive opinion from the Prosecution, adopted a decision accepting the offered guarantee with a property mortgage and imposing precautionary measures.

The Criminal Council at theSkopje Basic Criminal Court informed that it adopted a decision, acting upon a proposal from the defense, upon a positive opinion from the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO), by which defendant Nino Vasev was granted a guarantee (bail) in the amount of EUR 183,981 in favor of the state, which consists of a mortgage of real estate, while defendant NehadNuhi was granted a guarantee in the amount of EUR 348,049, also with a property mortgage.

The defendants have also been ordered to take the following precautionary measures: a ban on leaving their place of residence, i.e. their place of residence on the territory of the city of Skopje;duty to report to court once a month; and temporary seizure of their travel documents and a ban on issuing a new travel or other document for crossing the state border.

Nikola Vasev and NehadNuhi are accused in the “Oncology 2” case of illegally purchasing medicines through fictitious tenders and appropriating part of the therapy in between 2018 and 2022, which, according to the indictment, damaged the state budget by almost EUR 36 million. In addition to this case, the “Oncology 1” procedure is also ongoing, in which Vasev and two other doctors are accused of negligent treatment of patients.
