A major storm hit Skopje Wednesday afternoon. Heavy hail and torrential rain flooded streets and vehicles, traffic is in collapse in most of the city, and the Mother Teresa Clinical Center was also flooded. The situation at the Oncology Clinic, where the lower floor, where radiotherapy is performed, is particularly concerning. There are a large number of fallen trees and damaged roofs. Damage has been reported in all Skopje municipalities.
Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski announced that he plans to activate the crisis headquarters. He pointed out that the city services are in constant coordination with the Crisis Management Center (CMC), the Ministry of Interior, electricity company EVN, the Skopje Fire Brigade and other competent institutions, in order to respond promptly to possible floods, damage or other consequences of the storm.
According to Gjorgjievski, all available capacities have been put into operation, and the teams will remain on the ground throughout the night and will intervene wherever needed.
At the same time, the mayor urged citizens to be careful, calm and cooperate with the competent services, emphasizing that, although the storm cannot be prevented, its consequences can be reduced with a timely and organized reaction.
All Skopje municipalities have mobilized crisis headquarters, and teams on the ground react immediately after receiving reports of flooded areas and buildings.
