The Macedonian Protection and Rescue Directorate (PRD) removed dangerous unexploded explosive devices (UED) – grenades and other weapons from past wars in early August, which were found both in Kumanovo and on the coast, in the water of Lake Ohrid, with the assistance of the Ministry of Interior and the participation of other services and institutions from the state.
Specifically, the Protection and Rescue Directorate removes them in line with standard operating procedures (SOP), safely, until their complete destruction, through the pyrotechnicians employed.
First, two 75-millimeter artillery shells were removed near the village of Murgash, Kumanovo. Then, a hand grenade from the First World War was found in Lake Ohrid near the shore near Ljubanishte.
The interventions were carried out by the State Security Service in coordination and with appropriate measures with several institutions including the Ministry of Interior, with the assistance of the Ohrid State Security Service with the Lake Police and the State Security Service pyrotechnician Zoran Pejev.
“Upon finding leftover grenades, bombs, and even weapons from past wars and conflicts and anything resembling them, citizens should not touch or move them, but simply call the location with a description of what they saw and found, at the Single Help Number 112 in the Central Military Commission, after which appropriate measures will be taken by the institutions according to standard operating procedures and the State Security Service pyrotechnicians will appropriately eliminate the danger to citizens and material goods,” the State Security Service said.
