Today marks 25 years since the largest massacre of members of the security forces in 2001. On August 8, 2001, near Karpalak, in an ambush, 10 Prilep defenders lost their lives, VMRO-DPMNE MP and the party’s Secretary General Dragan Kovachki said Saturday.
The fallen defenders were Goran Minoski, Sasho Kitanoski, Vebi Rushidoski, Branko Sekuloski, Ljube Grujoski, Nane Naumoski, Erdovan Shabanoski, Marko Despotoski, Pece Sekuloski and Darko Veljanoski.
“For many in our homeland, it was an ordinary August day, but for these men it was the day they put Macedonia first. And they paid the highest price. There is no greater act than the willingness to die for the homeland, family and values you defend. Twenty-five years later, we remember their sacrifice. This sacrifice as a reminder that freedom and the country must be defended, and not a subject for bargaining. May our Macedonian defenders be forever remembered,” Kovachki said in a social media post.
