Venko Filipche has been scaring the public for months with claims that prices are growing uncontrollably, that inflation is flaring up and that the Government is failing to bring it under control, VMRO-DPMNE said Sunday.
“Unlike Filipche’s political press conferences, the numbers cannot be adjusted according to daily political needs. Just a few weeks later, the official figures show a completely different picture than the one Filipche presented to the citizens.
According to data presented by the State Statistics Office (SSO), inflation in March 2026 was 4.9 percent, in April 5.7 percent, in May 4.8 percent, in June it decreased to 3.4 percent, and in July it fell to only 2.3 percent.
So, precisely during the period when Filipche spoke of a spiral that “hardly anything can stop”, inflation from the April maximum of 5.7 percent decreased to 2.3 percent in July. That is a drop of 3.4 percentage points in just three months. The comparison with the period when the SDS was in power is even clearer.
In the period March-July 2022, the average inflation was 12.34 percent, while in the same period in 2026 it was 4.22 percent. The difference is a huge 8.12 percentage points.
In retail prices, the difference is even greater: the average in March-July 2022 was 12.1 percent, while in the same period in 2026 it was 3.88 percent, i.e. 8.22 percentage points lower,” the statement said. These are numbers, not political qualifications. So much for Filipche’s economic forecasts and “spirals”,” reads the ruling party’s press release.
