The Skopje Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) is prosecuting a 46-year-old suspect in a summary procedure for serious crimes against the safety of people and property in traffic under Article 300, paragraph 4 in conjunction with Article 297, paragraph 3 in conjunction with paragraph 1, as well as failure to provide assistance to a person injured in a traffic accident under Article 301, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
As the Public Prosecutor’s Office informs, on August 7 the suspect was driving a Seat Altea vehicle along Radishanska street. At the intersection with 18 street, where traffic is not regulated by signs, he turned left without letting vehicles coming from the opposite direction. In doing so, he cut off the path of a Kawasaki motorcycle that was blocking the direction of movement on the opposite side of the intersection. To avoid a direct collision with the car, the motorcyclist turned left, crossing into the lane intended for vehicles moving in the opposite direction. However, there, the front of his motorcycle hit an Alfa Romeo car coming from the opposite direction. The force of the impact caused the motorcyclist Nikola Makrachevski to fly off the road, fall onto the roadway and sustain serious injuries, from which he died, while the driver of the Alfa Romeo car was also slightly injured,” the PPO informed.
The suspect fled the scene of the accident instead of providing assistance to the injured.
