Macedonian Prime Minister HristijanMickoski said Saturday that a day before the news spread over an allegedly contaminated water in Skopje they had received a report that opposition parties would attempt to create such hysteria on social media.Asked by reporters which opposition parties he was referring to, PM Mickoski said the Ministry of Interior (MoI) is conducting an investigation, with a dozen people already summoned for questioning.
He added that social media are, as never before, a place where everyone can post lies without being held responsible, noting that the opposition spread such lies about migrants, energy crisis, and fires, aimed at creating an atmosphere of hysteria, fear and revolt.
“These messages are nowadays sent over social media, representing a type of hybrid attack, messages which aim is to instill unrest, insecurity and revolt among citizens. I understand that we are dealing with a desperate opposition that is trying to create hysteria, but we will fight this with projects, hard work and commitment, because this is the way to resist lies,” said PM Mickoski.
