The Macedonian Army today is a highly organized military formation with professional integrity, operational credibility and high interoperability with allied forces, said Macedonian President and Supreme Commander GordanaSiljanovska-Davkova at the ceremony marking Army Day in Ohrid.
In her address, she recalled the historical development of the Army, from the formation of the “MircheAcev” battalion in 1943 to the country’s membership in NATO, assessing that the Macedonian Army is a factor of stability, security and trust.
Referring to current security challenges, the President emphasized that modern defense must be prepared for new forms of threats, including cyberspace and artificial intelligence.
“I firmly believe that the more secure our own defense posture is, the more essential our contribution to common security is. That is why strengthening our own capacities is the right way to strengthen our position in the alliance as a serious and credible member that can be trusted and relied upon,” underlined Siljanovska-Davkova.
The Macedonian head of state pointed out that “the Army not only meets NATO standards, but also turns them into its own practice, and proof of this is the high marks of the Light Infantry Battalion Group and the participation of 183 members of the Army in international peacekeeping missions and operations.”
