Students will be able to apply for subsidized student meals starting Wednesday, August 26, Macedonian Ministry of Education and Science (MES) said Tuesday.

The public call applies to full-time students in the first and second cycle of studies, as well as integrated studies at state and private universities.

The right to subsidized meals is granted to students who do not have a monthly income on any basis higher than the minimum net wage in the country for the current year. The subsidy amounts to MKD 140 per day, funds intended for the purchase of prepared food.

The right also applies to freshmen who, as full-time students, are entitled to a subsidized student meal of MKD 140 per day, six days a week. Students who do not exercise their right through the initial call will be able to apply again, and from October, registration will take place in the first five days of each month.

Financial support for students who are enrolling in a faculty for the first time remains specific because some of the scholarships are awarded based on the success of the previous academic year. The Ministry of Education and Science indicates that certain categories of scholarships are available for freshmen, especially those that stimulate enrollment in scarce study programs. In addition to the meal, the Ministry of Education and Science also provides information about the process for accommodation in student dormitories. Registration for first-year students will last from September 14 to 20, 2026, and the final list will be published no later than September 30. A total of 3,500 spots have been provided for students.
