West Nile fever is above-average challenge throughout Europe this year, says PM Mickoski

The fact is that this year is above average when it comes to this type of challenge that we are facing, but also all Mediterranean countries. This includes Italy and Spain, where, unfortunately, the deaths from West Nile fever are numbered in the hundreds, the Prime Minister added

This year is an above-average year when it comes to West Nile fever infections throughout Europe – Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Saturday, explaining that this year this health challenge is particularly pronounced at the European level and is not specific only to the country.

Responding to a reporter’s question after the opening of the reconstructed Old Bazaar in Gevgelija, regarding the cases of West Nile fever, Mickoski said that according to the information he has, the municipalities have implemented the planned mosquito protection activities in accordance with the regular protocols.

“We have checked the information and based on what I have, all municipalities have completed their activities within the regular protocol. I could not say that someone did not do it or that they neglected their obligation,” PM Mickoski noted.

According to the PM, not only Macedonia but also all Mediterranean countries are facing West Nile fever.

“The fact is that this year is above average when it comes to this type of challenge that we are facing, but also all Mediterranean countries. This includes Italy and Spain, where, unfortunately, the deaths from West Nile fever are numbered in the hundreds,” the Prime Minister added.
