The Macedonian Party, the Macedonian Alliance for European Integration (MAEI) and Macedonian associations in Albania, sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of September 8 – Independence Day, to all Macedonians, in their homeland and wherever they live around the world, saying: “Macedonia is our pledge”.
“On September 8, 1991, the Macedonian people, with their convincing “YES” in the referendum, confirmed the centuries-old aspiration for a free, independent and sovereign Macedonian state. It was the realization of a dream for which generations of Macedonians fought, suffered and laid down their lives. The Macedonians from Albania are also on that historical path,” the MAEI’s congratulatory message reads.
It adds that from the Ilinden Uprising, through the National Liberation Struggle, to the referendum for independence in 1991, the Macedonians from Albania have been and remain an inseparable part of the Macedonian people and the struggle for Macedonian freedom and statehood.
