The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Minerals has developed a plan to protect, certify and promote the Macedonian ruby. It will announce the details on Monday, Sept. 21, it said in a press release.
The presentation will review past measures to establish a system for verifying and protecting the gemstone and outline the next steps. The plan includes documenting its origin, setting certification standards and creating promotional strategies, with a special focus on international marketing.
Macedonian Minister of Energy, Mining and Minerals Sanja Bozhinovska will attend the event, alongside members of the newly formed Macedonian Ruby Commission, tasked to set up certification and traceability system for the ruby’s origin.
The Macedonian ruby is a distinct type of corundum. Its signature raspberry-pink color comes from chromium within its crystal structure. Found exclusively near Prilep and the Mariovo mountains, it is mainland Europe’s only natural ruby that is locally processed.
