Former Deputy Prime Minister Artan Grubi’s house arrest will be lifted on October 13, following the expiration of a court order confining him to his home, the Skopje Criminal Court said Tuesday.
The Criminal Court has announced that a case file regarding the offered guarantee has been opened and forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) for evaluation.
“The Skopje Basic Criminal Court informs the public that the indictment, under which the criminal case against Grubi and the other defendants was registered, was filed on August 13, 2026. Pursuant to Article 470 of the Law on Criminal Procedure, detention may last for a maximum of 60 days from the date the indictment is filed. Therefore, as previously indicated and emphasized by the presiding judge, the house arrest measure for this defendant expires by operation of law on October 13, 2026,” the Criminal Court said in a statement.
“In addition to the measure of house arrest, an additional precautionary measure has been imposed on the defendant, specifically, the temporary confiscation of his travel document and a ban on the issuance of any travel or other document for crossing the state border; this measure will remain in effect even after the statutory 60-day period expires,” the Criminal Court added.
“Regarding this precautionary measure, the defense submitted a proposal to the Court requesting its revocation in exchange for the posting of bail, pursuant to Article 150 of the Law on Criminal Procedure. Specifically, the defense offered real estate valued at €335,707 as a guarantee that the defendant would remain available to law enforcement authorities throughout the criminal proceedings. A case file regarding the offered bail has been opened and forwarded to the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office for evaluation. Once the opinion is received, the Criminal Council will rule on the proposal, and the parties and the public will be promptly notified of the decision,” reads the Criminal Court’s statement.
